The Texas Collegiate League was well represented in the 2005 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, which took place Tuesday and Wednesday.
A total of 28 players with TCL ties were selected by the 30 major league organizations in the two-day draft. That included participants in the 2004 TCL season and players on the 2005 rosters.
Righthanded pitcher Jacob Marceaux of McNeese State became the first Texas Collegiate League alumbus to ever be selected in the first round of the draft, chosen by Florida with the 29th oberall pick. The 2004 TCL Player of the Year, first baseman Erik Lis of the University of Evansville, was a ninth round pick by Minnesota.
The first TCL player to sign out of the 2005 draft was RHP Logan Ondrusek of McLennan Community College, a 13th round pick by Cincinnati. He was scheduled to play for the Graham Roughnecks this summer before signing with the Reds organization on Thursday.
