Bryan-College Station, TX (July 7, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers kept over 1300 fans waiting all night to see their team come back with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Alexandria Aces 2-1. Fans celebrated with Reggy the Purple Party Dude and their Cricket Wireless Maracas as two Bombers scored to start the second half of the Texas Collegiate League season with a victory.
Fans were thrilled to spend the evening with Reggy, the official spokes mascot of the Mascot Hall of Fame on his nation wide tour. Reggy will be back at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark on Sunday July 11 on Super Hero Night sponsored by ServPro.
The Bombers’ Brian Borski pitched an incredible game, going the distance for the home team and only allowing one run that came on a fielders choice in the fifth giving the Aces a 0-1 lead. The Bombers moved men into scoring position in the second, third, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, but were unable to score, thanks to the pitching of Aces starter Josh Branstemer.
The Bombers geared up for one last run in the bottom of the ninth, with Cameron Dullnig working a one out single. The next batter, Michael Flores, was hit by a pitch, moving runners to first and second. One batter later, Isaac Nuti stepped into the batter’s box with two outs as the Bombers’ last hope. Nuti worked a 3-1 count and then crushed the next pitch just past the glove of the Aces’ diving left fielder.
The Aces tried to get the ball back in to have a play at the plate, but the speedy Flores followed Dullnig in as the game winning run without a play. The dugout emptied onto the field, first to the runners at home plate and then out to second base to Nuti to celebrate yet another late innings come from behind win.
The Bombers will be back in action Friday and Saturday at the East Texas Pump Jacks before hosting the Pump Jacks this Sunday on Bingo at the Ballpark night presented by Brazos Bingo.
