The Brazos Valley Bombers fired on all cylinders Wednesday night as the team beat the North Texas Copperheads 10-2. The win helped the Bombers slide back into a tie for first place in the Texas Collegiate League standings.

The Bombers scored first, getting one run in the second. After walks to Brennyn Smith and Ryan Morrow, Justin Padron singled to load the bases for John Cannon. Cannon drew a walk, bringing in Smith and putting the Bombers ahead 1-0. The lead didn’t last long though as the Copperheads responded with two in the fourth to pull ahead 2-1.

The Bombers scored two in the top of the fifth as Greg Olson’s double brought home Cannon. Isaac Nuti then followed by plating Morgan Mickan on a groundout, giving the Bombers the lead back, 3-2. In the sixth Morrow walked, Padron singled, and John Cannon walked before a Morgan Mickan base knock cleared the bases to put the Bombers up 6-2.

With Levi Saenz on the mound, the Bombers needed no more runs, but got four more in the seventh. Nuti singled before Wes Patterson hammered a ball over the fence in left center field. Two batters later, after a Brennyn Smith single, Cameron Dullnig launched a no-doubter over the right field wall, putting the Bombers up for good, 10-2. Nick Fleece and Blake Fonfara shut down the Copperheads over the last four innings, sealing the important victory.

After tonight’s win the Bombers move back into a tie for first place in the TCL standings with just 3 games remaining.
