Bryan-College Station, TX (July 27, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers were undefeated over the course of a double-header in front of a sell-out crowd on Free Ticket Tuesday presented by AbouTown Press. The Bombers won the first game with a walk off single, 2-1, and tied in the second game, 3-3, in eleven innings in a game that was halted due to the Texas Collegiate League’s midnight rule.
In the first game the Bombers struck first when Casey Dykes brought home Isaac Nuti in the first inning on a double putting the Bombers ahead 1-0. After the score, the story of the game was fine pitching from both teams. The Copperheads leveled the score on a single in the fifth to make the score 1-1, on one of the two hits Bombers’ starter Brian Borski allowed. The Bombers loaded the bases in the seventh and final inning before Dykes grooved a single past the first baseman to bring home Rodarrick Jones, giving the Bombers the 2-1 victory.
The Bombers again struck early in game two, as Wes Patterson plated Nuti on an RBI single before Jacob House brought Patterson home to give the Bombers an early 2-0 lead. In the fourth inning the Copperheads struck back, scoring three to take a 3-2 lead. The Bombers’ House was scored in the sixth when Justin Padron drew a bases loaded walk, tying the score at 3-3.
Both team had chances as the game moved on, the best opportunity coming for the Copperheads in the 10th. The visitors moved a base runner to third base, but Bombers’ closer Matt Passauer held him right there, striking out the final batter of the inning. The Bombers got men in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh and the eleventh, but both times the runners were left stranded. The game ended shortly after midnight as an inning cannot begin after that time.
The Bombers will be back in action at Weimar tomorrow for the first game of a two game set against the Texas Tomcats. The team returns to Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark on Kids Free Saturday against the East Texas Pump Jacks with free admission, free food, and free tickets to the Kids Zone for all kids!
