Bryan-College Station, TX (July 3, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers won a thriller against the East Texas Pump Jacks Saturday night, 6-5. The Bombers trailed 3-5 heading into the seventh until Wes Patterson cleared the bases with a double to put the Bombers ahead.
The Pump Jacks jumped ahead in the first, scoring the first run of the game on a steal of home plate. The Bombers evened things up one inning later with Rodarrick Jones scoring on a Cameron Dullnig RBI single, making the score 1-1. The visitors pulled back ahead in the fifth with two runs, one on a sacrifice fly and one on a single to make the score 1-3.
The Bombers wasted no time getting one back as Greg Olson plated Michael Flores on an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. The Pump Jacks answered again with two more in the seventh on a controversial ground rule double that got caught in the tarp down the left field line. The bases were loaded and the runner from first was originally ruled as having scored on the play, but after a lengthy conversation the umpire crew sent him back to third, but the Pump Jacks extended their lead to 2-5.
After Dullnig scored on a wild pitch the Bombers loaded the bases to bring Patterson to the plate. The first baseman drove a double to the left field fence, scoring Flores, Olson and Isaac Nuti to give the Bombers their first lead on the evening at 6-5. After six and a third solid innings from Brannon Easterling, Brian Borski sealed the deal for the Bombers, earning his fourth win of the season as the pair combined for 12 strikeouts.
Five Bombers, Ryan Eastman, Greg Olson, Levi Saenz, Wes Patterson, and Matt Passauer will be in action at Monday’s TCL All-Star Game and showcase in Victoria.
