Bryan-College Station, TX (August 8, 2010) – It took all nine innings, but the Brazos Valley Bombers won a thriller over the Texas Tomcats 3-2 on Bark in the Park Night presented by Lovan Care Animal Clinic. The win on the last Bingo Sunday presented by Brazos Bingo puts the Bombers on track for the playoffs that begin on Tuesday at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark as the team prepares for the Derby Dash presented by Montelongo’s Fine Jewelry.

At the first playoff game, Tuesday, August 10, the Bombers will host the Montelongo’s Fine Jewelry Derby Dash. On the line are 12 Bombers Blue Topazes and One Half-Carat Diamond thanks to Montelongo’s Fine Jewelry. Tickets are on sale now and start at just five dollars.

The Bombers trailed most of the game after the Tomcats pushed one across in both the second and third to take a 2-0 lead. In the fifth the Bombers had a chance with runners on first and second and no outs, but Brennyn Smith was cut down trying to score after a wild pitch, and no runs scored in the inning. An inning later the home team finally got on the board. Greg Olson reached base after the pitch he struck out on got away from the Tomcats catcher. Isaac Nuti singled and Morgan Mickan drew a walk to load the bases up. Wes Patterson grounded into a double play, but Olson scored, making the score 2-1.

After runners reached second and third with no outs in the eighth it looked like the Bombers were on track to tie the game or take the lead, but the runners were left stranded there. After a flawless inning pitched by Matt Passauer the Bombers were left with three outs to work with, trailing by one run. Dykes singled to lead off the inning before John Cannon drew a one out walk to bring McElroy to the plate. McElroy smashed a liner down the third base line sending Dykes and Cannon sprinting around the diamond and across the plate to give the Bombers the 3-2 walk-off victory.

With the win the Bombers conclude their most successful regular season with numerous broken records and a franchise best 32-20 record. The Bombers will host either the Victoria Generals or East Texas Pump jacks on Tuesday night to begin the 2010 Texas Collegiate League Playoffs.
