Brazos Valley opened its inaugural season home schedule with a 4-1 victory over the Duncanville Deputies in a game attended by a Texas Collegiate League record 1,471 fans. The previous record was 1,438 by the McKinney Marshal last season.  The record crowd saw Casey Whitmer, who several years ago was a star at nearby A&M Consolidated High School, pitch six innings of one-hit ball to earn the Bombers first-ever victory.Bombers fans were also treated to a grand entrance from their mascot, KaBoom, who descended upon Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark in a helicopter. The crowd also looked on as the rotund character struggled to free himself from the chopper, eliciting a roar from the stands when he finally jumped from the helicopter.Whitmer and two relievers shut down the Deputies to the tune of a two-hitter. Joseph Towns, Will Currier, and Blake Walker also had two hits apiece, and Towns added two runs to pace the Brazos Valley offense.The Bombers jumped out to a 2-0 lead by the third inning. A Blake Walker bases loaded single in the first made the game 1-0, and Will Currier’s RBI double increased the Bombers lead.Duncanville managed a run in the fourth, but 2-1 was as close as they would get. Clint Helms pitched a perfect seventh frame and Tyler Davis added two scoreless innings to finish off the two-hitter.Mark McGonigle drove home Kyle Sisney with an RBI double in the seventh inning. Towns scored on Will Basom’s RBI groundout in the eighth to close out the scoring.
