The Bombers beat the Acadiana Cane Cutters 9-1 on Friday night, behind impressive performances at the plate and on the rubber, in addition to some help from the national champion Texas A&M Women’s basketball team’s head coach Gary Blair. The win puts the team in sole possession of second place in the TCL standings. With 3 games left in the first half of the season, the Bombers control their own destiny – if they win out, they’ll clinch their fifth straight trip to the TCL playoffs.
Jake Moser was phenomenal on the hill tonight for the Bombers, pitching a complete game and allowing only a meaningless run in the 9th inning. He scattered 8 hits across the contest, while striking out 4 Cane Cutters. The Bombers bats went off in the 5th inning, putting up 6 runs and putting the game permanently out of reach for the Cane Cutters, who looked hapless at the plate. Matt Milligan continued to see the ball well at the plate, sending his first home run of the season over the left field fence. Trey Porras also continued his stellar season, raising his TCL-leading batting average with a 2-3 performance that included 2 walks and 2 runs scored.
Coach Gary Blair battled through his at bat to start things off at the plate for the Bombers, working the count full before ultimately striking out swinging for the fences. He hit a foul ball with a screaming line drive that could’ve gone for extra bases. Coach Blair signed autographs for fans for over an hour after his trip to the plate, and the Bombers are 2-0 in games in which he’s played.
The team concludes their home series with the Cane Cutters Saturday night at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark, before traveling to Acadiana to wrap up the first half of the season next week. Saturday night s game is Salute the Troops Night at the ballpark, with miniature American Flags for the first 100 fans at the game. It also features Kids Free Saturday, where kids get into the game, eat, and receive inflatable tickets for FREE thanks to Chicken Express.
