Coppell, TX- It was a rough week for the defending Texas Collegiate League champions, but thanks to a solid start from P Kyle Felts (Southern Arkansas) the Copperheads picked up their first win since week one of the season.
Felts (2-0) threw seven solid innings, striking out four batters, walking two, and allowing only one run on five scattered hits. Backing up Felts, Tyler Carter (Navarro) picked up his first save of the season after giving up a run and striking out three in two innings of work.
On offense, a trio of Copperheads picked up a pair of runs each. Taylor Mabra (Texas-Arlington) got his first hit, a double, in the first inning, and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Marcellous Biggins (Howard). Zach Voights (Navarro) second hit came in front of a double by Matt Shortall (Tulane) in the seventh. Voight would score the go ahead run on a wild pitch. Jason Krizan (Dallas Baptist) also picked up a pair of hits in the game.
The Copperheads moved their record up to 3-5 on the season, and sit 2.5 games out of first place. They play the McKinney Marshals on Sunday in Coppell before heading to McKinney for another home game against the Marshals.
