Gerald W. Haddock, who founded the first college baseball summer league in North Texas a year ago, announced today he is bringing another tradition to the area.
Haddock, the Principal of Fort Worth based Haddock Enterprises, has entered into an agreement with the Krystal Company to open ten locations of the fast food icon over the next several years. The stores will be located in Tarrant County as Krystal begins a major expansion into Texas.
One of the big attractions of the Texas Collegiate League is the grass roots atmosphere it has created in our markets, commented Haddock. Baseball is the traditional American pastime, and the TCL personifies this.
In the same way, Krystal is a tradition in the food industry. It has been serving patrons in the Southern United States for over 70 years and we are now bringing this nostalgia to North Texas. Our Krystal locations will join the Texas Collegiate League teams as great community partners as we continue to expand both enterprises.
Founded in 1932, Krystal restaurants have become more than sparkling-clean eateries where friendly employees serve up fresh, delicious food. Krystal has become a cultural icon and an experience that virtually every man, woman, and child in the South has shared. Nearly everyone in the region has a Krystal memory. The Krystal brand and the great food, service, value and setting which it represents has taken a prominent place in the Souths cultural landscape.
The Krystal Company, which is famous for its fresh, hot, small, square hamburger, is the oldest quick service restaurant chain in the South and the second oldest in the United States. The Chattanooga, Tennessee-based company currently has more than 430 restaurants in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
Over the next 48 months, the opening of at least 45 new franchise-owned Krystal locations is anticipated throughout Texas in markets that include Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Waco-Killeen, Austin, and San Antonio.
Haddock Enterprises plans to build ten Krystal locations in Arlington, Mansfield, and other areas of Tarrant County West of I-35W. The company is currently looking for site locations.
Krystal is expected to be a major corporate partner in future years for the Texas Collegiate League, which begins its second season on June 4. The summer wooden bat league is comprised of eight teams in North Texas. Over 200 of the nations top collegiate baseball prospects from 90 different schools will participate this summer. The Texas Collegiate League will play a 48-game regular season schedule followed by two rounds of playoffs.
I am excited about the future of the Texas Collegiate League, explained Haddock. We had a very successful first season and are looking for additional growth in 2005. Our plans are an expansion of the TCL into other areas of Texas, including the Houston market.
I look forward to bringing together this partnership of the Texas Collegiate League and Krystal. They will become two great Texas traditions.
