The Boston Red Sox Sunday named Massachusetts native and Texas Collegiate League Commisisoner John Blake Vice President/Media Relations and named Glenn Geffner Vice President/Communications.

The moves were announced by Dr. Charles A. Steinberg, the Red Sox’ Executive
Vice President/Public Affairs.

As a result, Blake will be leaving his position with the Texas Collegiate League.

“John Blake has been among the best heads of media relations in baseball for
more than 20 years, and I had the privilege of working side by side with him for
six years to see first-hand his integrity, intelligence, work ethic, and
collaborative spirit. I’m thrilled to be reunited with one of the best in the
game.”

Blake has been with the Texas Collegiate League since March 2004, when he was appointed Vice President of Communications. He was promoted to the position of Commissioner/Chief Operating Officer in September 2004.

“I want to thank everyone associated with the Texas Collegiate League for their assistance and support over the last two years,” commented Blake. “The TCL has made great strides and will continue to grow as one of the nation’s premier summer leagues.”

Blake has spent 26 years as a major league public relations executive with the
Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers. Most recently, he served as Director of
Information for the 2006 World Baseball Classic. He was also working as the Vice
President of Communications for Ryan-Sanders Baseball, whose Principal Owner is Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan and which operates the Pacific Coast League’s
Round Rock Express and Texas League’s Corpus Christi Hooks in Texas.

A native of Wenham, Massachusetts, Blake was with the Rangers from 1984-2004, working as Director of Media Relations, Vice President of Public Relations, and most recently, Senior Vice President of Communications. He served in the same capacity for the National Hockey League’s Dallas Stars from 1999-2002. He held the positions of Assistant Public Relations Director and Director of Media
Information for the Orioles from 1979-84.

A graduate of Georgetown University, Blake served as Georgetown’s Director of
Sports Information from 1977-79 before entering professional baseball. He also
was a radio broadcaster for Georgetown’s nationally-ranked men’s basketball team
during his years with the Orioles.
