McKinney, TX (July 31, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers defeated the McKinney Marshals 4-0 Tuesday evening thanks to some excellent pitching from Mitchell Pitts, a solid defensive effort, and opportunistic offense. The win came thanks to timely hitting and defensive gaffes by the Marshals.

It took five innings for the Bombers to get their first hit of the evening as Brennyn Smith led off the fifth with a liner in front of the Marshals left fielder. An inning later the Bombers pushed one across, scoring Josh McElroy as Wes Patterson reached on the second Marshals error in the inning, putting the Bombers ahead 1-0. In the seventh the visiting Bombers tacked on three more as Isaac Nuti drove home Cameron Dullnig and Greg Olson on a two RBI double and a Patterson sacrifice fly, making the score 4-0.

Starter Mitchell Pitts needed little run support as he cut down the Marshals for seven innings. In the fourth the home team had their best chance with a man on third, but squandered the opportunity as he was gunned down trying to score on a squeeze bunt. In the eighth, closer Matt Passauer came in to slam the door shut and did, finishing the game for the Bombers.

The Bombers will stay in the Metroplex tomorrow for a game against the North Texas Copperheads. The team will be back in action at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark on the last Fireworks Friday of the season as the Bombers celebrate Aggie Night. The first 500 fans will receive Dat Nguyen bobbleheads thanks to Brazos Valley Bank.
