Tuesday night was the night of Lee Orr… and the stolen base.

Orr hit the first home run in 2010 at historic Driller Park and contributed three of the team’s season-high eight steals as the Pump Jacks moved to within a game of first place with an 11-3 laugher over the McKinney Marshals.

The Pump Jacks put the game away from the very beginning, sending ten batters to the plate in the first inning. Blake Ellender led off with a single, moved to second on a ground out, and stole third base. He was driven in by a Matt Carvutto fielder’s choice.

In the meantime, Zac Fisher reached before stealing second base and scoring on a throwing error. Carvutto stole second behind him, which brought up Monday’s hero, Jesse Santo.

Santo crushed a double to bring home Carvutto and extend East Texas’ first-inning lead to 3-0.

The scoring didn’t stop there. Alex Fuselier knocked his first base hit of the season in front of a walk to Orr. The fourth ball to Orr skipped to the backstop, allowing Santo to score and Fuselier to advance to third base. Orr noticed the passed ball and aggressively rounded first, drawing a throw that he beat to second base. The throw gave Fuselier a window of opportunity to score, and the Pump Jacks had a 5-0 lead after one frame.

The lead allowed Pump Jacks starting pitcher Abel Gonzales to coast. Gonzales, making his first home pitching appearance in 2010, retired the side in order in the first and fifth innings. Gonzales earned the win with five solid innings, allowing one run and striking out four.

Orr was the catalyst for the Jacks’ single run in the third inning. After singling with one out, Orr stole both second and third before coming home on a Jarid Scarafiotti base hit.

The Marshals cut the lead to 6-1 with a run in the fourth, but the floodgates opened again in home half of the frame.

Fisher led off and lined the first pitch a few inches fair down the right field line. As the ball went into the corner, he sped around second and slid into third base with the Pump Jacks’ first triple of the season. With the infield in, Carvutto lined a shot that bounced out of the first baseman’s glove. While the second baseman was able to get the ball and throw Carvutto out, Fisher scored the seventh run for the home side.

With one out and nobody on base, Santo drew a base on balls and Fuselier singled, which brought Orr to the plate with two runners on. After taking a strike, Orr gave the ball a ride Pump Jack fans hadn’t seen in 2010. In just a matter of seconds, the baseball cleared the left field fence and reached the trees for a three-run homer and a 10-1 East Texas lead.

The Marshals scored twice in the top of the sixth, but it was answered by Santo’s third run of the contest in the bottom of the inning.

John Walter and Brad Kottman combined for the final three scoreless innings. Kottman allowed two runners on base in the ninth, but one was gunned down at third base by a Russell LaFleur throw from right field. LaFleur sent the crowd home with highlight-reel diving catch to end the game.

Orr finished the night 2-for-2 with two runs and three RBI. Fuselier went 2-for-4 and scored twice, while Carvutto drove in a pair of runs and scored once.
