Texas & Louisiana, USA (June 14, 2021) — The Texas Collegiate League has announced Week Two’s Hitter and Pitchers of the Week. Steven Rivas helps the Victoria Generals nab their second consecutive Hitter of the Week award, while San Antonio collects their 2nd Pitcher of the Week award with Alec Martinez who shares the honor with the Cane Cutters lefty, Chipper Menard, the first award for Acadiana.
The Victoria Generals’ offense exploded this week, scoring double digit runs in their last three games. Steven Rivas was a big reason for the Generals offensive surge. Rivas, a University of Houston product, went .500 with 10 hits which included 3 Doubles and 5 Home Runs! The Outfielder collected 10 RBIs and added four Walks to his stat line for the week. Rivas’ big week helped lead the Generals to a resurgence in the TCL standings as they now only sit one game behind 2nd place.
The Acadiana Cane Cutters left-handed pitcher, Chipper Menard, saw action in multiple games this past week. In 6.1 innings, the lefty struck out a league high 15 batters while allowing zero hits, zero runs, and only walking four. On June 8th, Chipper helped the Cane Cutters beat the 1st place Flying Chanclas with four strikeouts in 2.1 innings of relief and then against the Bombers on June 12th, Chipper struck out 11 of the 14 batters he faced.
Alec Martinez only made one appearance this past week for the Flying Chanclas of San Antonio, but he made it count. The big righty from Our Lady of the Lake University threw seven innings of shut-out baseball while pitching in hostile territory in Baton Rouge. Martinez struck out 11 batters while only surrendering two hits and one walk. The 1st place Chanclas would win the game 5-0 and earn a series split against the Rougarou.
