Texas & Louisiana, USA (June 29, 2021) — As the second half of the summer season kicks off with a bombastic start, the Texas Collegiate League has announced its next set of TCL Players of the Week. Infielder Brady Hebert of the Baton Rouge Rougarou and Brazos Valley Bombers pitcher Dylan Johnson are this week’s honorees.
Hebert played his first game with the Rougarou just six short days ago but has already solidified himself as a core member of the Baton Rouge squad. In his four games played over the last week, Hebert made 14 appearances at the plate, recording six hits and drawing four walks to round out his batting average at a dominant .429. The Baton Rouge native also stole three bases, helping him en route to scoring three runs. With a .714 on-base percentage and slugging percentage of .367, Hebert indubitably secured his spot as the most successful offensive powerhouse of the week.
On the defensive side of the diamond, Johnson handled things nicely to become this week’s TCL Pitcher of the Week. Johnson threw five innings over two appearances this past week for the Bombers. Johnson did not surrender a single run during that span while striking out six batters. Johnson has pitched 11 innings on the season, striking out 13. The Splendora, Texas native also holds a 2.45 ERA, holding his own among the league’s best. In his last appearance against the San Antonio Flying Chanclas, Johnson became the night’s winning pitcher by facing only 15 batters across four innings, striking out six of them. Throughout the summer, the pitcher has maintained a perfect 1.000 fielding average and notched three putouts while controlling the rubber.
