Texas & Louisiana, USA (June 21, 2021) — With the first half of the summer 2021 season coming to a close, the Texas Collegiate League has announced its next set of TCL Players of the Week. Infielder Samuel Tormos of the Amarillo Sod Squad and Brazos Valley Bombers pitcher Jack Brinley are this week’s honorees.

Tormos secured his title as TCL Hitter of the Week through an indisputably dominant performance at the plate. In five games this week, Tormos hit .563 with two doubles, 1 triple, five RBIs and added three stolen bases. Along with his impressive .462 season batting average, Tormos currently leads the league in triples and is tied for the third-most hits and RBIs in the entire league. Most recently, the infielder recorded his best career showing against the Acadiana Cane Cutters where he went 3-3 with two runs, four RBIs and three drawn walks, finishing at a season-high of a 1.200 slugging percentage on the night.

On the defensive side of the diamond, Brinley handled things nicely to become this week’s TCL Pitcher of the Week. Brinly threw 5.2 innings over three appearances this past week for the Bombers. Brinley did not surrender a single walk or hit during that span while striking out 9 batters. Brinley has pitched 11 innings on the season, striking out 17 while only walking one. The Georgetown, Texas native also holds one of the best ERAs in the entire league, standing firm at a 0.81. In his most recent appearance on the mound, Brinley worked three innings against the Victoria Generals, retiring all nine batters faced without allowing a single hit or walk. Throughout the summer, the pitcher has maintained a perfect 1.000 fielding average while controlling the rubber.
