Texas & Louisiana, USA (July 5, 2021) — With the summer season officially moving into the month of July, the Texas Collegiate League has announced its next set of TCL Players of the Week. Outfielder Samuel Benjamin of the Victoria Generals and Baton Rouge Rougarou pitcher Brannan Hogan secured this week’s awards..
A veteran member of the team, Benjamin has played in 19 games with the Generals and has proven that he is a force in the team’s starting lineup as he has hit .315 with 8 doubles and 3 home runs on the season. This past week, the freshman made seven appearances at-bat, with four hits for a batting average of .571; three of his four hits were extra base hits, including two doubles and a home run. The Katy, Texas native also stole three bases, helping him en route to scoring five runs to go with his six RBIs. With a .700 on-base percentage this week, Benjamin claimed his spot among the top offensive leaders of the week.
On the mound, Hogan had himself a successful Fourth of July showing to become this week’s TCL Pitcher of the Week. Hogan threw eight innings in the Rougarou’s latest matchup against the Generals, retiring 26 out of 29 batters by only giving up three hits all night. During this time, Hogan struck out 12 batters while only walking one, holding the Victoria’s offense to a .152 on-base percentage and .097 slugging average. With a still-perfect record on the mound and a .44 WHP statistic, Hogan showcased what has arguably been the best pitching showing all summer in the TCL.
