Catcher Adam Moore of the Coppell Copperheads and righthander Jake Arietta of the McKinney Marshals are the recipients of the D-Bat Texas Collegiate League Player and Pitcher of the Week Awards for June 7-12, it was announced Monday by the TCL office.
Moore, a red-shirt from the University of Nebraska, batted a league best .580 (11-19) with three homers, also a TCL high, and six rbi in six games for the Copperheads. The righthanded batter added six runs scored and five walks in helping Coppell to a 5-1 start. He homered in consecutive games on June 8 versus Euless and June 9 at McKinney.
Arietta, a freshman from Weatherford College, pitched 11 scoreless innings in his two starts issuing just six hits with three walks and 15 strikeouts. He worked five scoreless frames with seven k�s on June 8 versus Highland Park and fanned eight in six innings on June 12 against Coppell but did not receive a decision in either start.
Arietta was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 26th round of last week�s Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.
TCL ALUMNUS JOINS NORTHERN LEAGUE: RHP Scott Richmond signed a pro contract with the Edmonton Cracker-Cats of the Northern Independent League on Monday. Richmond, a native of North Vancouver, BC, pitched the last two seasons at Oklahoma State University, fanning 98 in 99 innings with a 3.00 era in 2005. The righthander pitched for the Highland Park Blue Sox last summer, going 1-5, 4.50 in 8 games.
