The Texas Collegiate League has announced Brazos Valley first baseman Will Basom (UT-Permian Basin) as the D-Bat Player of the Month and McKinney pitcher Justin Murray (Kansas State) as D-Bat Pitcher of the Month for the games during June 5 – June 30.Basom (6-1, 225, Jr.) produced remarkable numbers in June leading the TCL with 20 hits and six doubles. The Lubbock, TX native was consistent at the plate hitting .345 with a home run and nine RBI in 55 at-bats in the month of June.Last spring, the junior batted a whopping .515, with a .571 on-base percentage and .736 slugging percentage for UT-Permian Basin.Murray (6-3, 216, Soph.) was lights out in the month of June tallying a 2-0 record with a 0.53 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 17 innings pitched. Murray has been solid in every appearance, averaging around six innings every outing and only allowing one earned run all season. The Kansas State Wildcat pitcher is scheduled to be the starting pitcher for the Rogers Hornsby division in the 2007 Brookeshire’s McCormick All-Star Game on July 9th at Lupton Stadium on the campus of TCU.After being one of Kansas State ‘s top hurlers out of the pen as a freshman, Murray remained consistent during his sophomore stint posting a 4-3 record with 44 strikeouts in 24 appearances (4 starts).OTHER JUNE STANDOUTSBasom and Murray were just two of the many stars in the month of June. Weatherford’s Jamie Johnson, Adam Hornung and Jon Kibler all had a very impressive June. As did Wichita Falls’ Jason Seefeld, Mineral Wells’ Stephan Halford, McKinney’s Bryan Holaday, Brazos Valley’s Casey Whitmer and Denton’s Tyler Ladendorf just to name a few.IN PUDDLESThe rain continues to spoil games in the TCL, tallying the number of rainouts to over 30 games, the most of any TCL season by far.BIG DAY FOR SEEFELDWichita Falls’ Jason Seefeld went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI to lead the Roughnecks to victory over the LoneStars last night. Seefeld raised his average 24 points to .378 on the season. HOME RUN DERBYThe contestants for the PlainsCapital Home Run Derby, which will precede the All-Star game on July 9th at TCU, will be announced on Thursday July 5th.
