A look back at Week 6 in the

Texas Collegiate League It will be an interesting next few weeks leading up to the playoffs since tight races headline both the Speaker and Hornsby divisions as every team is still in the thick of it all.  To add to the fierce competition in the standings, four of the five games played on Wednesday were won by only one run. RELATED TO MARK?

Wichita Falls ’ Chris McGuire (Northwood) fired up the Roughnecks by hitting a home run in each of the games of the double header against Colleyville.  McGuire is now the league leader in home runs with five.  EIGHT CONSECUTIVE HITSWeatherford’s Joey Butler (

New Orleans) completed a feat that rarely occurs in even the major leagues.

Butler ’s constructed a streak of eight straight hits over the length of three games last week to boost his average to a league leading .382 on the season.  Last week,

Butler was 11-for-21 with 3 RBI.  DOMINATING THE PLATEIf you go to the stats page and view the league batting leaders, one of the names you will become familiar with is

Wichita Falls ’ Chris Richburg (Texas Tech).  Richburg has dominated leading the league in hits, doubles, triples and slugging percentage, ranks second in on-base percentage and third in batting average and runs scored.  He has been incredibly consistent throughout the season although he has yet been awarded the Player of the Week award.  TAKE BACK THE RECORD

Brazos Valley is promoting “Take Back the Record” for Friday July 20th, which refers the TCL attendance record.

Brazos

Valley originally broke the TCL attendance record on opening night (1,479) only to see

McKinney answer back by shattering the record on their Fourth of July game (1,657).  BACK TO WINNING WAYSThe 2004 TCL Champion Coppell Copperheads and 2005 Champion Denton Outlaws began this season on a bit of an unusual path.  Both teams have been under .500 at some time during the season, but they have turned it around as of late.  Both teams have won four straight with Coppell now leading the Speaker division and the Outlaws only two games back in the Hornsby division. COPPERHEADS REACH OUT TO COMMUNITYThis past Monday, the Coppell Copperheads visited the Children’s Medical Center of Dallas.  Copperheads’ players visited several children in the waiting room and activity room and spent the day playing games, signing autographs and taking photographs.  Click here to see the pictures.BUENGER RETURNS TO TCLRice second baseman and two-time TCL All-Star Jess Buenger returns for his third summer in the TCL.  Buenger, formerly with the Roughnecks in 2005 & 2006, joins the Brazos Valley Bombers for the 2007 summer.  The Bellville, TX native has started off hot going 9-for-21 (.429) in his first seven games with the Bombers.  Buenger is the only player in TCL history to hit for the cycle when he went 4-for-5 with a grand slam and eight RBI against the Steam on July 22, 2005. COMPLETE SHUTOUTThe TCL has been full of great pitching performances this week including four shutouts.

McKinney pitcher Steven Richards shut down the top hitting team in the TCL during a Saturday victory over the Roughnecks.  Richards pitched seven strong innings allowing no runs on one hits and eight strikeouts. On Wednesday,

Wichita Falls ’ Blake Booher also threw a complete seven inning shutout giving up no runs on only two hits and four strikeouts against the LoneStars.  Even though it went into extra innings,

Denton ’s Trevor Harden stayed the course pitching eight shutout innings earning the win over the Marshals.THIS WEEKS TRANSACTIONS7/18/07 Coppell Copperheads add Utility Adam DeLaGarza (New Mexico JC); Drop OF Matt McGuirk (TCU)7/17/07 Coppell Copperheads add C Mikey Horn (McLennan CC); Drop OF Austin Turner (Temple JC)Brazos Valley Bombers add RHP Garrett Duff (Richland); Drop RHP Steven Mohr (Missouri)Weatherford Wranglers add LHP Tyler Herriage (Weatherford); Drop Jamie Johnson (Texarkana) and LHP Jon Kibler (Michigan State)7/15/07Colleyville Lonestars add IF Andy Revell (Sneed State); Drop OF Tyler Henley (Rice)7/14/07McKinney Marshals add RHP Austin Coan (UTA), IF Spencer Selby (Southern Nazarene), LHP Terry Saletrs (Prarie View A&M), RHP Michael Johnson (San Jacinto CC), IF Trae Williams (TAMU Corpus Christi); Drop IF Corey Wine (Penn State), C Trent Dietrich (Pepperdine), IF Denny Duron (Pepperdine), IF Jeff Texada (Alabama), RHP Jared Schrom (Stephen F.
