The Texas Collegiate League today announced that it will be hosting an open player tryout camp on Monday, June 2 at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas.

The tryout is open to any player that wants a chance to participate in the TCL during the 2008 season. Representatives of all four member teams the Brazos Valley Bombers, Coppell Copperheads, McKinney Marshals, and the expansion East Texas Pump Jacks will be on hand to evaluate players. Following the tryout, teams will draft and sign players to a short-term contract, with the opportunity to play their way into a full-season pact.
Players can try out if they meet the leagues three eligibility criteria:
1) The player must be currently enrolled in a two-year or four-year college or university;
2) The player must be a member of that schools baseball program, either as an active player or as a redshirt; and
3) The player must have remaining collegiate eligibility.

The open tryout will be held at the Highlanders baseball field on Cameron Drive at McLennan Community College in Waco. The event will be held rain or shine; in the case of inclement weather, tryouts will be moved to the adjacent hitting and pitching tunnels.
There is a registration fee of $25 per player for the tryout. Registration will begin promptly at 10 am. Players are reminded to bring their own gear for the tryout: Catchers should bring their own equipment, and players should bring their own wood bats for the camp.

Players will be vying for an opportunity to join one of the top summer collegiate leagues in the country as it enters its fifth season. The TCL has been an extraordinary springboard for player success, with 158 alumni drafted by Major League Baseball in the last four years. The TCL gives players a chance to enjoy a minor league baseball-style environment, with wood bats and in front of professional scouts, while also delivering affordable, family-friendly entertainment to Texas communities.
