Fifty-six Texas Collegiate League alumni were chosen by 25 different Major League Baseball organizations in the 2006 Free Agent Draft.
That brings the three-year total of draftees who have signed with professional organizations to 88 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
This years banner haul of outstanding TCL talent is indicative of the progress of the league, which has attracted over 250 of the nations top collegians in 2006. There were seven TCL draftees in the first five rounds of 2006 MLB choices, and many others are competing in the June 16-25/26 NCAA World Series in Omaha.
Among the draftees who are playing in the 60th annual NCAA World Series are TCL Denton pitcher Eddie Degerman (also a finalist for the prestigious Dick Howser Trophy Friday in Omaha for Division I Baseball Player of the Year) of Rice, McKinney SS Blake Davis of Cal State Fullerton, McKinney P Bryce Cox of Rice, Weatherford pitcher Lauren Gagnier of Cal State Fullerton, Euless OF Tyler Henley of Rice, and Graham infielder Josh Rodriguez of Rice.
Gagnier, a 2004 TCL All-Star, carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning last Saturday in Cal State Fullertons clinching NCAA World Series win 9-1 over Missouri in the 2006 Fullerton Super Regional. Coppell pitcher Taylor Parker of Missouri was one of the Tigers hurlers in MUs deepest advance into the NCAA tournament since the1964 College World Series.
