Three Roadrunners Join Shewcraft on Bombers Roster
Bryan-College Station, TX (March 8, 2016) – The Brazos Valley Bombers are proud to announce the welcoming of four UTSA Roadrunner pitchers to the team for the 2016 season. The return of junior Andre Shewcraft along with the additions of freshman Jose Castro, junior Steven Dressler and 2017 UTSA commit Chris Muller make the Roadrunners the most represented university on the Bombers depth chart at this time.
Freshman Jose Castro, a 6-foot-2 right-handed pitcher from Laredo, Texas, provides an excellent arm to the Brazos Valley pitching staff. Castro, who lettered for three years at Laredo United High School, served as a two-year starter and registered a 2.31 ERA during his senior campaign while batting an impressive .382. Castro’s success on the mound and plate earned him a spot on the All-District team in 2015. The freshman will aim to become a valuable contributor on a strong Bombers staff this summer.
Left-handed pitcher Steven Dressler adds an international element to this year’s Bombers team. Dressier, a junior from Burlington, Ontario, pitched two seasons at Cisco Junior College before joining the UTSA pitching staff in 2016. As a pitcher for Cisco, Dressler earned all-conference and all-region honors. Dressler’s most notable performance came against Vernon College, a game in which the Canadian southpaw tossed a full 9 innings while allowing a mere two hits and striking out 12 batters in a masterful outing.
The Roadrunners are anticipating a strong addition to their own pitching rotation with the commitment of Chris Muller, currently enrolled at Paris Junior College, who will debut for the Roadrunners in the 2017 season. Muller, a 6-foot-5 right-handed sophomore from Dallas, has notched 2 wins for the Paris Dragons this season. This summer, Muller will look to continue building on his recent success before heading to San Antonio next fall.
Andre Shewcraft, the lone Roadrunner returnee for the Bombers, has appeared in 5 games for UTSA baseball this season. Shewcraft earned an impressive upset win on Tuesday against the nation’s 18th ranked University of Houston Cougars. Shewcraft pitched 2.1 innings allowing 2 hits and a run en route to a 3-2 victory over the Cougars, improving to 2-0 on the season.
