The Texas Collegiate League has announced Duncanville outfielder Brandon Kendricks (Prairie View A&M) as the D-Bat Player of the Week and

Brazos

Valley pitcher Casey Whitmer (

Florida

State) as D-Bat Pitcher of the Week for the games during June 18 – July 1.Kendricks (6-3, 190, Fr.) led the Deputies to two big wins this week going 5-for-8 (.625) with five RBI.  Even though the rain spoiled the week for most teams, Kendricks took advantage of playing time by producing in key situations to lead the Deputies to victory.  During his freshman season at Prairie View A&M, the DeSoto, TX native hit .263 with 16 RBI in 50 games with the Panthers.     Whitmer (6-1, 188, Fr.) flirted with TCL history last week dominating the Copperheads by striking out a league season high of 14 (current record of 15 held by Jess Todd in 2006).  In six appearances, five of them starts, the Kilgore, TX native has a 1-1 record and a 1.76 ERA. He leads the league with 30 2/3 innings pitched and has surrendered just 18 hits, with opposing batters hitting a miniscule .166 against him. His most remarkable statistic, though, is his league-leading 44 strikeouts; not only is he averaging an eye-popping 12.9 strikeouts per nine innings, but no other pitcher in league has struck out more than 25 batters. Whitmer is scheduled to be the starting pitcher for the Tris Speaker division in the 2007 Brookeshire McCormick All-Star Game on July 9th at Lupton Stadium on the campus of TCU.
